Heavy surf pounding Sandbridge, Virginia Beach due to the coastal low. Hundreds of Red-breasted Mergansers were duck-diving in the waves. Offshore winds allowed the waves to develop clean faces and gain height. I was actually surprised that there was no one out surfing these clean waves. I spent about 45 minutes observing until the wind started to shift and the surf started to die down slightly. I always enjoy documenting the ever-changing conditions in Sandbridge. In a few short weeks the vacationers will start to return and the tranquil, quiet winter will be over. There is something great about the offseason, even though it may be cold and uncomfortable out.
