I spent the last week in San Juan, Puerto Rico on a work trip in meetings with a client. It was a beautiful week, with hot temperatures in the 90s. It was nice to get out and walk, but ended up a little bit dehydrated by the end of the trip. It was a great time overall.
I stayed in Condado at the AC Marriot Hotel which is about a ten minute drive from Old San Juan. I found Uber to be the easiest way to navigate around, as they are extremely plentiful and relatively cheap during the week day in the daytime. I found that the rates got a bit more expensive as the night goes on as every night seemed to be a party. There are plenty of great places to eat on Ashford Avenue in Condado. The first I visited was Orozcos, which had fantastic fish nuggets and Mofongo. They also had a street saxophone player which made the vibe even more enjoyable. Another place I ate at in Condado was Prime which had fanastic empanadas. The third night I was there I traveled with the group I was with out of the touristy area and went more off-grid to a local place called Hipi Cache. The area is north of the airport near the beach and is a strip of outdoor style eateries with open fire pits and covered patio style dining in a more "local" style. I ordered the fried Snapper, ceviche, fish nuggets, and a coconut mojito and left absolutely stuffed, but satisifed. The night ended with a visit to Ocean Lab brewing company for some local beer, which was great, but I was so full from dinner it was hard to get more in my stomach.
On my second to last day, I had some free time to walk around Old San Juan, tour San Cristobal, and go to the beach. I walked almost 30k steps and saw most of the old city. I had my fair share of local food, Medalla (very popular beer in PR), mojitos, fish, empanadas. I definitely ate well, saw alot in my short time and soaked up the warm sun and humidity. I am very grateful that I got this wonderful opportunity. This place is an awesome destination for street photographers, as you can walk all day and continually find amazing compositions around every corner. Each street is unique with a stunning variety of street art, eccentric locals, quiet allies, shade trees and colorful floral arrangements along the cobblestone streets.
